The School of Visual Arts and the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) have a long relationship due largely to the public exhibitions produced by artist, designer and 3D Design Chair Kevin O’Callaghan and his students, which are frequently on view along the famous street. Past SVA 3D Design–Madison Avenue BID collaborations include “Hemlines From Skylines: Architectural Fashion,” “Obsessorize” and “One of a Kind” and “Barkitecture.“
The latest exhibition, now on view at the height of the holiday season, is “Today is the Day! Every Day is a Celebration,” a series of dress-themed installations each representing a meaningful national day of celebration, created by BFA Design students in O’Callaghan’s class. Each student’s piece is illuminated within an eight-foot Lucite case and features a description of the national celebration day in the case. The displays are located on the sidewalks of Madison Avenue between East 61 and East 79 Streets.
