13 Stores & Galleries Opened or Expanded on Madison Avenue in the First Half of 2021
With 13 additional businesses under construction

NEW YORK, NY (July 30, 2021) — The Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) today released its First Half 2021 report for new business openings on Madison Avenue between East 57th and East 86th Streets. This report provides a profile of the dynamic investment in the northern section of East Midtown and on the Upper East Side, and specifically the historic 29-block section within the Madison Avenue B.I.D. – often billed as the longest street of luxury in the US.

“The caliber of the businesses electing to stay, expand their retail footprint, or open new stores on Madison Avenue is a testament to why the migration to Madison Avenue continues – to be part of the lives of the loyal and local clients who consider Madison Avenue part of their daily routine,” said Matthew Bauer, President of the Madison Avenue BID. “In this time where there is still an international travel ban, it is heartening for both Madison Avenue and New York City that some of the world’s leading fashion and jewelry brands, including Brunello Cucinelli, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Graff, Hermès and Montblanc have spent the last six months working towards expanding their physical presence on Madison Avenue. With three new residential buildings under construction containing retail, restaurant or other commercial uses at their base, even more residents will make Madison Avenue part of their lifestyle.”

Manolo Blahnik’s festive flagship opening, complete with a marching band, heralded Madison Avenue as the region’s largest luxury footwear destination. Three art galleries opened on Madison Avenue in the first half of 2021. The celebrated opening of The Frick Madison this spring, as well as the BID’s spring and fall Madison Avenue Gallery Walk events, promoted nationally, built upon the Upper East Side’s unparalleled status as a destination to experience, and purchase fine art. And in this year that our city has been so challenged, we are so pleased to report that William Greenberg Desserts, the home of New York’s quintessential Black & White Cookie, took this time to double the size of their Madison Avenue shop.
